Not that is widely available. USers may have written their own programs,
but we've not heard of any. If anyone has a VB or any other GUI app for the
HAL-4 they'd like to distribute to other users, let us know and we'll
maintain it on our servers.

Have you checked the Circuit Cellar FTP server? There are several
user-donated files for HAL dating from roughly 1989-92. You can
get to them via my index at
http://www.ultranet.com/~dtweed/cajinde ... eause2.htm

See also my reply to Grant Fair on 1998/12/21 under the topic
"Another HAL-4 software availability inquiry", where I listed
some of what's available there.

Not *strictly* true. Until recently, circuitcellar was using an FTP
server that didn't fully support passive ftp (as from a web browser)
and didn't always work correctly. There were ways to get around this
using command-line tools, etc.

They seem to have this fixed now, because I just tried it (using
Netscape) and it works for me where it didn't before. However, they
must be in a transition stage, because the only thing on the server
right now is the Circuit Cellar directory (containing article code),
but not the rest of the FTP (BBS) archives. Give them a few more
days to get the files transferred over.
