Overheating

Postby techiearc » Thu Oct 18, 2007 9:37 am

Hi All,

Has anyone noticed a case of unusual heating of W5100 I.C
I am using it in SPI mode and the I.C is getting overheated, even, before any actual data transfer is happening.
I have configured W5100 in slave mode by pulling SPI_EN to 3.3V thrg a 4.7K resistor.
Operating voltage: 3.3V.

It is not a big deal.

Dear techiearc,

Hi. I am Regina, WIZnet PR manager.
W5100 is new revised chip with PHY about existing W31XX in this year.
Still, it is on early market.
Since its release, we’ve got reported overheating issue from some customers.

We found the fact that the cause of heating lies in packing.
However, it is not a big deal.
It is not critical according to our outside fab and testing company.

Now, we are about to revise W5100 packing.
Then, the cover temperature will go down 10~20 centigrade degrees.
But don’t worry. For now, there is no problem without a little heat feeling.

Thank you!
